Striving to Revive the Important Sunnah of Monthly Moonsighting

Shawwal 1442

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Dear Brothers/Sisters in Islam,

Please make an effort to sight the Eid Hilal on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, for the month of Shawwal 1442

Take your important part in this blessed effort. Since the Eid al Fitr moon sighting criteria is different from that of Ramadan, the Shariah requires shahadah, NOT mere Khabr (news).

Alhamdulillah, by the joint effort of the Ulama and the tremendous cooperation from brothers and sisters throughout the States, we have revived this forgotten Sunnah of moonsighting throughout the year in many localities, all across the nation.

We make a humble appeal to all community members to report ALL efforts, both positive or negative, to the Central Hilal Committee. Please include the location, exact time, number of people who saw and the total number who tried, the location of the crescent in the sky, and the orientation of the crescent.

The birth of the Hilal for Shawwal 1442 will take place on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2:59 pm EST (18:59 UTC)
